Flower Care 101-
Before you start arranging remove any leaves which will be under water in your vase. The leaves disintegrate and create bacteria which clogs the base of the stem inhibiting the hydration process. Create clean cuts by using a sharp tool (scissors or dull blades can crush stems, inhibiting water absorption).
Like us, flowers like clean water and food. Commercial flower food packets contain chemicals to kill bacteria and feed the flowers, but you can do the same thing on your own without the chalky mess in your water. Skip the flower food packet which often creates a white residue inside your vase. Create your own Flower Power flower food by adding one capful of bleach and one teaspoon of sugar per 16oz water.
Re-cut the stems and change the water in the vase as often as possible - every day is best but even I do not reach this goal all the time - do what you can and your flowers will love you!
